Put Your Heart In It!

Put Your Heart in It: Crazy pieced
Our newest fabric line, "Put Your Heart in It" has arrived in the shop! And  it looks beautiful in the cupboard all together!!  We developed this line in conjunction with our crazy pieced "Put Your Heart in It" quilt.  The quilt was inspired by a friend, a breast cancer survivor, who's cancer had reoccurred.  We wanted her to believe, to have hope, and to be strong in her journey to come.  I'm happy to report that she's done all three and is doing well! We don't always know what to do for a friend with a serious illness, and making this quilt helped me to cope.  It's stitched with love and countless prayers!

Put Your Heart in It: Traditionally pieced
And just to complicate things, we have a second quilt with the same name, but it's traditionally pieced "Put Your Heart in It" quilt, designed by Sue Falkowski for Henry Glass Fabrics, who so generously agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds of the sale of this fabric to Susan G. Komen for breast cancer research.  Thank you to our friends at Henry Glass and to each of you who purchases this fabric!  Let us all pray that there may one day be a cure.

Merry N Bright

Merry & Bright

Is everything "Merry & Bright" at your house?  Are your packages all wrapped and under the tree?   Tom & I had a marathon of wrapping to get the gifts wrapped before the kids got home....Zack arrived today and he's the worst snooper!  He knows he doesn't want to spoil his Christmas morning but he can hardly stand it...he wouldn't even look under the tree, I think because it's way too much temptation and he wants to wait for his brother to get here so they can shake all the packages together and try to guess what's in each!  They are quite a pair and I go to great lengths to try and fool them by putting boxes inside of boxes.  Some years, I don't even put name tags on them-one of them gets red ribbon and one gets green and they don't know whose are whose until Christmas morning-it makes them crazy and keeps them guessing which is most of the fun!  At least now that they are older we no longer have to stay up all night on Christmas Eve waiting for them to go to sleep before "Santa" can come and put them under the tree!   But I'm so glad I still have them home for the holidays.  Hope yours are home with you too! Have a great holiday!

Christmas Churndash

Look what Gloria just finished for us!  Although this "Circa 1934"quilt is not traditionally Christmas, I think it would be fabulous on my couch this season!  I really want one of these quilts so I guess I'll be stashing another kit in my cupboard!  You, too, can stash one of these quilts or maybe have Santa wrap it up for under the tree!

The Barn Chicks
We had a cookie exchange at the barn yesterday with the girls....as usual, the cookies are just as delicious as last year.....I know since I've sampled them all!  So now in an effort to be able to fit into my jeans, they are now  safely stashed in the freezer!  Good thing for my waistline that my freezer is out in my detached garage....at least I get my exercise when I walk out for a snack!!  From each of us at the Buggy Barn, Pam, Kallie, Jan, Gloria, Mary Ellen, Nikki, Kathy A., Lynda, Kathy W., Donna, and me behind the camera, have a very Merry Christmas!  But not to worry.....you still have LOTS of time left to get everything ready!

Crazy Stars

Crazy Eights
Pam & I have always loved star quilts!  The thing we haven't loved, are the templates for making them!  I think that's the best thing about our "Crazy" method is that you can get these great stars without the mess and stress of templates.  Plus, you're done cutting in about 2 minutes!

And even though I love to applique, I don't really like to applique 50, 60 or 100 stars, especially if I can piece them!  This is where our "crazy" star method comes in!  When I made Blackbird Design's Halloween 1904, I didn't applique-I substituted our crazy stars.  So, for your convenience, here's a listing of our finished star sizes and which book or pattern they can be found in so that you'll be able to substitute into your favorite patterns!  Happy piecing!

Baby Quilt for Ella

It Takes a Village
I hope everyone had a festive Thanksgiving! Our sister has been slowly remodeling our mom's house and this was our first Thanksgiving back home gathered around Mom's old dining room table. We had a big crowd with lots of kids and grand-kids-it's the best kind when family is all gathered back home together! While my niece was home, she and her mom, my sister Kathy, came to the Barn to pick out a baby quilt for Ella, who will be the newest addition to the family.  Now we like to use Kathy as our example of a non-quilter who is quite accomplished at piecing our crazies- if she can do it, so can anyone!

Baby N Me
During the quilt show, Kathy decided she'd make our "Baby N Me" quilt, using Leann Anderson's cute baby fabric. It uses one of our "Crazy" Stars around Leann's panel.   Then she could also whip up this cute book, also made from another of Leann's fabric lines (keep watching the website: will be added soon!).

"A Boy's Story
But Sara wanted to choose fabric like she has with the two previous babies so we headed to the Barn where I had to show her one of my personal favorites that I have stashed away, Annie Down's "A Boy's Story".  I just love the comic strips- they remind me so much of what it's like to have little boys. But, no, we needed more of a girl quilt.

Life is Beautiful

I also love "Life is Beautiful" and thought they could pick out their favorite sayings and/or designs.  This is not only a great quilt but clever in how the designer has made it a quilt as you go and uses the circles that you cut out from behind the applique motifs to applique down in other blocks. We continued the hunt, and after much deliberation, we finally decided on "It Takes a Village" which I think will be perfect! And it's one of our "crazies" so for Kathy, that makes it even better!  It sure was great having everyone home: family, food, and we even managed to sneak in some quilting!  Hope your's was happy too!
